This post is also on my Instagram where I post quite a lot of things if you want to check it out on my contact page.
Back story:I’ve lived back home with my mum since April, since finishing university and she lives in a council house that is owned by Clwyd Alyn and as part of the rent they include a service charge which isn’t optional which includes to cut the grass. They have always cut the grass too much and they cut it 2-3 weeks ago and they cut it too short resulting in dark patches in the lawn.I ‘thought’ that at this time of year they wouldn’t cut the grass on the properties or near it as it is full of daisies and dandelions that are essential for the bees at this time of year… but I was so wrong…Onto my post put on Instagram that I’m sharing here..🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿-》Woke up this morning to hear lawn mowers, I grabbed my dressing gown and ran downstairs to immediately step outside my front door and to see the men who mow the lawns of the properties we are on just outside my house about to go on my lawn… so I immediately stopped him and told him to switch off the machine so I could talk to him. I explained how essential the dandelions are for the bees and asked him not to mow our lawn so he agreed.I was fuming they were cutting the grass at this time of year when dandelions and daisies are essential for the bees at this time of year! 🐝🐝🌸🌸 I called the housing association give them a right earful, I’m hoping to hear from the housing officer soon to discuss the garden maintenance contracts they have with the men who cut the grass. They give tenants no say as to whether they want their grass cutting or not and make you pay for the service regardless, I had to stand out in my dressing gown and tell the guys not to cut our grass. 🚫🚫‼‼❗❗🚩🚩I’m hoping to speak to the housing officer soon and make them more aware of how essential dandelions are this time of year and stop them cutting the grass for the next few weeks to give pollinators a chance!I’ve also left a message for them on Twitter and Instagram. There are lots of people all around the UK also talking about this topic and doing the same as I am and I hope they keep up the good work.People need to learn to put wildlife first. What is a mowed lawn if it doesn’t serve the purpose it is for, just like the stupidity of putting nets around trees and bushes to stop the birds nesting and using them!Anyway, this was a small victory as my lawn still has dandelions on it and the maintenance guys actually left quite a few dandelions on other peoples lawns and left a smaller communal space alone too!Small wins count! 🥰✊👊Until next time.Faye x#savethebees #pollinators #dandelions #flowers #wildflowers #standingforthecause #savethepollinators #grass #grassmaintenance #housingassociations #angry #determined #bees
